Niagara Thruway – overview
The Niagara Thruway is part of Interstate 190 (also known as One-Ninety), a north-south Interstate Highway in the US. Interstate 90 links I-90 in Buffalo, New York, to the Canadian border at Lewiston, New York. Niagara Thruway is the I-190’s section from I-90 north to New York State Route 384. It is also part of the New York State Thruway System. Some people confuse the Niagara Thruway with the Niagara Expressway, but the Niagara Expressway is the toll road from NY 384 to Lewiston. The entire I-190 is 28.34 miles (45.61 km) long. It was built as part of the New York State Thruway in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Since 2018, the route has been all-electronic. It starts at an interchange with the NY State Thruway in Cheektowaga in Erie County, and ends at the approach to the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge – across the bridge, it becomes Highway 405.
