The Details

Located in Southern California, Ford Rd Toll Road is a major road facility. Ford Rd is one of the busiest roads in California.

Ford Road is part of California State Route 73 – a 21-mile limited access highway aligned over the Corona del Mar Freeway and Sam Joaquin Hills Toll Road. It runs from Interstate 405 to Interstate 5. The toll road was opened in 1996 and is now operated by the San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor Agency. Before the Corona del Mar Freeway and San Joaquin Tollway were built, SR-73 was a surface located on largely MacArthur Boulevard.

Ford Road and SR-73 – overview

The entire route is approximately 17.76 miles (28.58 km) long. It is located in California, with a southern terminus at Interstate 5 in San Juan Capistrano and the northern terminus at Interstate 405 in Costa Mesa. In some sections, it is a unique scenic route with some amazing views near Catalina View. Ford Road toll road is part of the California Freeway and Expressway System, as well as part of the National Highway System. The second one is a network of highways that are crucial to the US economy, defense, and mobility, as confirmed by the Federal Highway Administration. Ford Road tolls are operated by the Transportation Corridor Agency – TCA. There are two lanes.

Ford Road tolls

This toll road facility has been using an all-electronic, open-road tolling system. Since 2019, the license plate tolling program hasn’t worked anymore. However, you can still pay using the FasTrak electronic collection system. You can also pay via a one-time payment online. Tolls must be paid within five days after your travel date. If you travel the entire tolled segment of State Route 73, you only encounter the Catalina View Mainline toll gantry. Tolls are also collected at the northbound exits and southbound entrances of:

  • La Paz,

  • Aliso Creek Road,

  • SR-133

and at the southbound exits and northbound entrances of:

  • Newport Coast Drive,

  • Bonita Canyon Drive.

How to pay For Road tolls

This toll facility only allows the FasTrak payment system. It is 100% cashless and all-electronic. Uproad payments aren’t available. Drivers who don’t have a valid payment option get a mailed bill or violation. They have to pay the highest toll rate.

You can choose between a prepaid option (tolls are prepaid and eligible for a discount) and FasTrak Charge (tolls are charged individually to the credit card on file).
