The Details

If you want to cross the Delaware River from Burlington, New Jersey Bristol Township, Pennsylvania in the United States, you will need to go through the Burlington Bristol Bridge. Opened in 1931, the bridge is believed to be one of the scariest for truckers. Here’s an overview of what you need to know before crossing the Burlington Bristol Bridge.

The Burlington Bristol Bridge

The Burlington Bristol Bridge carries Pennsylvania Route 413 and New Jersey Route 413. It’s a truss bridge with a lift span that crosses the Delaware River. The Bridge connects Bristol Township in Pennsylvania with Burlington in New Jersey. The Burlington Bristol Bridge is located between the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge and the Delaware River-Turnpike Toll Bridge. It is built from steel and the total length is 2,301 feet (701.3 m) with the longest span of 540 feet (165 m). The width of the two-lane bridge is 20 feet (6.1 m). The lift span of the bridge is 61 feet when closed at mean high water. The Burlington County Bridge Commission operates the Burlington Bristol Bridge. Since 2016, the bridge has had traffic signals and barrier gates that were constructed at each end of the bridge to stop traffic when the draw span is lifted.

Currently, Uproad is considered to be one of the most convenient toll payment apps in the US market.

Additional information

As already mentioned, the Burlington Bristol Bridge is believed by truckers to be quite scary. It’s a very tight, two-lane bridge, lifted by 2 concrete slabs using an automated pulley system. The reason why it’s not loved by truckers is the bridge’s width. Most truckers admit that lots of mirrors get taken off while crossing it.

The bridge has a municipal garage located underneath the rising road after the toll booths.
