The Details

Baltimore Tunnel Toll

Baltimore is famous for many things. It is the city charm with amazing attractions like the Maryland Science Center and National Aquarium. The city is also the birthplace of the National Anthem and the home of the Ravens and Orioles. The most important toll road in the area is probably the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel – a pair of 2-lane road tunnels that carry Interstate 895 under the Patapsco River.

The Baltimore Harbor Tunnel – overview

The Baltimore Harbor Tunnel stretches from the south shore of Patapsco River to the north shore near Dundalk. It is 7,650 feet (2.33 km) long and it’s a pair of tunnels. Each of them is 22 feet (6.7 m) wide and 14 feet (4.3 m) high. A New York-based engineering company specializing in tunnel design – Singstad and Baillie – designed the tunnel. Maryland Governor Theodore McKeldin opened it in 1957 with a dedication. 30 years after it was opened, the tunnel was closed in phases for extensive rehabilitation. It was fully reopened by 1990. The maximum speed within the tunnel is now 50 miles per hour (80 km/h). There are lane control signals to control which lanes are open and closed.

How to pay the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel tolls

Most drivers pay Maryland tolls electronically as this is the most convenient method – you don’t even have to stop at toll booths. The best option is to use Maryland EZ-Pass as it gives motorists the highest discounts. Of course, Maryland E-ZPass is not the only accepted transponder tag. Any valid transponder tag will work. You can also pay by invoice with the Pay by Plate system. The Baltimore Harbor Tunnel doesn’t accept cash (unlike some other Maryland toll roads), though. If you miss a toll, a photo of your license plate will be taken, and you will receive an invoice in the mail. The invoice can be paid online or by mail.

And, if you drive a lot and are looking for a new toll payment account without a transponder or toll tag, you've come to the right place! With an Uproad app account, you'll pay tolls as you go with your mobile phone.

Love the app, use it every week
Saved our day when we were on a trip and had to take a toll road on our way home
This App allows us worry-free travel on TOLL ROADS...Automatically replenishing our account, notifying us of Automatically paying our access to the Toll Road. Great relief from expensive citations for not paying while driving. Thank you. P.S. A receipt is always sent to us.

Better than a toll tag, I use one app on both vehicles and will link my wife's car next week. Easy to travel to other states, since you're registered with all toll authorities they cover.
Been going back to the office a little so been driving more. This is great.
