Motorists face toll road discount in Harris County

Drivers in the Houston area on toll roads maintained by the Harris County Toll Road Authority will get a 10% discount on their toll road fees, thanks to the passage of a proposal by Harris County Commissioners.

The discount becomes effective Sept. 4, and exclusively pertains to two-axle passenger vehicles. Four-axle trailer trucks will still pay the posted rate.

95% of EZTag users are two-passenger vehicles, according to a report by the Chron.com.

The new toll discount law aims to make EZTags more attainable by offering eight costless tags per household. Prior to the passage of the ordinance, tags cost $15 each.

The discounts apply to the toll roads managed by the Harris County Toll Road Authority, including the Hardy Toll Road, Express lanes on Interstate 10, Sam Houston Tollway, and Westpark Tollway.

Harris County Commissioners believe the discount would benefit residents coping with climbing living costs incited by inflation, according to a memo previewing the proposed deduction by Chron.com.
