Bay Area Toll Authority Starts Issuing Refund Checks in San Francisco and Oakland

If you received a toll violation from the Bay Area Toll Authority in the last few years, a refund may be next. The Bay Area Toll Authority will send motorists reimbursements who paid higher violation penalties prior to the penalties being lowered on Dec. 1, 2021, according to the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA).

The violations and reimbursements are related to state-owned bridges including San Francisco-Oakland Bay, Antioch, Benicia-Martinez, Carquinez, Dumbarton, Richmond-San Rafael, and San Mateo-Hayward.

BATA began producing refund checks in November 2022. The checks will be sent in batches until all are issued. The reimbursement process will take several months, according to BATA.

The first violation notice included a penalty of $25 prior to Dec. 1, 2021. A second violation involved a penalty of $70. Those penalties decreased to $5 for a first violation notice, and $15 for a second violation notice on Dec. 1, 2021.
